Sodalite is a royal blue-colored tectosilicate mineral with white, gray and sometimes orange streaks. It was first discovered in the late 1800s in Ontario, Canada and was given the name Sodalite due to its high sodium content. Blue is a rare color for rocks and minerals, and Sodalite is one of the only vivid blue materials that is available at a reasonable price.
